Authentic Ukrainian cuisine and traditional dishes taste even better when you try them at a local’s table! In Ukraine, the table is a place of sharing and eating is truly social. At BeInside, we believe that one of the best ways to find out more about Ukrainian food culture is to have a dinner with locals who will cook it for you, or even with your help. While preparing the meal you will get a chance to talk about lifestyle, ask about current events and share your experiences of Ukraine. Your 2-hour dining experience at the local’s house will be one of never-ending conversation and discovery.  Since traditional dishes are the simple dishes of everyday life, the host will be an expert in their swift preparation. Ukrainian national cuisine has its roots from preparation of simple village meals, which are based on cereals and vegetables, such as potatoes, cabbage, beetroot and mushrooms. Traditional Ukrainian cuisine is rich in a large variety of vegetable dishes. Those are borscht and cabbage, rolled cabbage ‘golybsty’ and sauerkraut, pickles and pumpkin porridge. Ukrainians love a variety of egg dishes – especially scrambled eggs with bacon and sausage. Naturally, no meal is complete without sampling traditional drinks. Our ancestors didn’t know about tea, coffee and vodka, so they produced tasty drinks from whatever could be produced in their fertile lands- mostly kvass and honey.  Honey was served on Christmas and treated at weddings. It was prepared by fermenting natural bee honey in boiling with water alongside dried fruits and berries to create “honey brandy”. Kvass is well prepared with rye bread, and with fruits and berries: kvass (bread soup), beet, pear, apple, and flour, such as tsiberey. Both traditional Ukrainian food and beverages have stood the test of time and are nowadays inseparable elements of Ukrainian culture. So, come over! You’ll be made most welcome. Any questions?
